Hygeia Laboratories staff is comprised of highly trained and certified professionals.  Laboratory analysts and management regularly attend technical and professional development seminars, courses and conferences.  A complete in-house training program has also been incorporated as well as an extensive quality control program to ensure a state of the art facility with consistent technical and ethical policies and procedures.


 

Arturo Casas - Optical Laboratory Supervisor  -  casas77@atc-enviro.com

As Optical Supervisor for Hygeia, Mr. Casas is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Optical Laboratory; coordinates the analytical work activities for specific projects responding to client  needs;  responsible for keeping accurate and clear documentation of  analytical work and quality control; coordinates the participation of the Optical Laboratory in proficiency testing and interlaboratory Round Robin programs.

Prior to returning to Hygeia, Mr. Casas worked as the Quality Control Coordinator for the  Henry Co. where he was responsible for testing and adjusting batches of roofing products. As Second Shift Optical Supervisor for Hygeia, Mr. Casas was responsible for the supervision and training of laboratory personnel; sample control; analysis and archiving procedures; and the verification of accurate documentation of laboratory results.  In addition to his in-house capabilities, Mr. Casas also performed personal air monitoring, sample collection and field analysis.

Prior to joining Hygeia Environmental Laboratories, Inc., Mr. Casas was employed by Health Science Associates in Los Alamitos, California where he was responsible for the identification and quantification of asbestos in bulk samples using PLM analysis. 

Prior to working at Health Science Associates, Mr. Casas also served as a laboratory technician and geologist for the United States Geological Survey in Menlo Park, California.  In the laboratory, Mr. Casas was responsible for geological sample preparation and archiving as well as operating an X-ray Difractometer for limestone residual studies.  As a field geologist, Mr. Casas performed independent research consisting of rock sample collection, sample preparation and the subsequent PLM analysis of thin sections.

Mr. Casas is a highly qualified laboratory supervisor and analyst, experienced in the analysis of asbestos and geological materials, analyzing numerous bulk and air asbestos samples utilizing both PLM and PCM.  Mr. Casas also performs on-site sampling and field analysis of bulk and air samples.

Kyeong Corbin - TEM Laboratory Supervisor  -  corbin77@atc-enviro.com

Ms. Corbin is an experienced laboratory analyst, highly qualified in TEM analysis.  For Hygeia's Sierra Madre facility, she is responsible for the supervision and training of TEM laboratory personnel; the evaluation of sample control, analysis and archiving procedures; assurance of adequate QA/QC programs and the verification of accurate documentation of sample results.  Ms Corbin has a through knowledge of TEM laboratory procedures, principles and practices

Prior to working for Hygeia Environmental Laboratories, Inc., Ms. Corbin worked as a senior TEM analyst and a QA/QC manager at EMS Laboratories, Inc.  She was responsible for asbestos testing and particle analysis of airborne, water, bulk and dust wipe samples using TEM with EDXA system.  Her other duties included overseeing daily quality control procedures and documentation for TEM, PLM, PCM, and Chemistry laboratories as well as conducting semiannual internal audits for all laboratories.  She is also responsible for the training of TEM analysts, training procedures and documentation of TEM, PLM, PCM, and Chemistry laboratories.

Ms. Corbin has ten years of extensive experience in the identification of asbestos using transmission electron microscope.  She has over five years of experience in quality control and quality assurance.  She is specifically responsible for TEM analysis and the supervision of all Sierra Madre TEM personnel.

Nahid Motamedi - Chemistry Laboratory Supervisor  -  motamedi77@atc-enviro.com

Ms. Motamedi is the Supervisor of Chemistry Laboratory at Hygeia Laboratories Inc., in Sierra Madre.  Ms. Motamedi is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Chemistry Laboratory.  She is responsible for scheduling work activities and coordinating work assignments responding to client needs; accurate data generation and proper use and handling of analytical instruments; reviewing all the sample results and final reports; implementing a continuing program to update test methodology, based on internal or customer requirements; and communicating with clients effectively.

Prior to joining Hygeia Laboratories Inc., Ms Motamedi worked as a Process/Environmental Engineer in Ambitech Inc. in Chatsworth, California.  As Supervisor of the Wet Chemistry Laboratory, she analyzed metals by titration and flame atomic absorption (FAA); evaluated heavy metals such as gold, nickel, palladium copper, tin, and lead for quality and thickness; examined lamination of layers, etching, electroplating and cross section; tested physical properties of metal sheets.  She utilized variety of instruments such as atomic absorption, UV/Vis Spectrophotometer, and Radiometer.  She is familiar with titration techniques and viscosity measurements.  As Environmental Engineer, Ms. Motamedi conducted batch treatment of all waste chemicals before releasing in sewage, special treatment of gold cyanide, and control of pH meters; participated in safety training; and organized manifests and labels.

Prior to working in Ambitech Inc., Ms. Motamedi served as a laboratory assistant in the Organic Chemistry Department of the California State University of Northridge.  She aided in the research for Ester derivates of Yeast, part of antibiotics formula using High Pressure Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC), Column Chromatography, and Gas Chromatography (GC).

Ms. Motamedi has over 5 years of analytical laboratory working experience as a supervisor.  She is proficient in many instruments such as AA, HPLC, GC, Column Chromatography, XRF, TDR, Radiometer, UV/Vis Spectrophometers.  She is a member of the American Chemical Society.
